Why do you have a Black and Tan Russian Terrier?

......Why Not?

When I was picking out a puppy for our family there were no plans or expectations. I just wanted to pick the best breed for our lifestyle and make sure I bought a puppy from a reputable breeder.

When we decided on our girl Black Russian Terrier the breeder threw around big name kennels, grand champion titled lines and we had no idea what he was talking about, we had only gone to our first dog show a week before.

When we decided to show I started following Zhanna's lines backwards and then I stumbled across Ermak (Zhanna's grandfather) and some of his offspring... that's when I saw the most beautiful variety of color on a B.R.T. EVER!

Through breeding a dominant black gene is the norm among todays Black Russian Terriers but almost all of the breeds that were used to create Black Russian Terriers also have color. That means now and then a rare recessive gene reveals itself and we get some of those original colors back!

We welcome conversations with traditional (black purist) breeders, if you would like to know why we consider ourselves preservation breeders while still considering color to be used in a dominant black breeding program. Please take the time to read this article before you reach out to us.
