So… Who’s Behind the Dogs?
- Brittani Strouk
Not just the black ones, either.
I’m still new to the breed—still learning, still asking questions, still catching myself staring at movement videos like they’re crime scene footage. But I’ve fallen hard. Not just for the presence and power of the BRT, but for what they represent: intelligence, instinct, depth. I see so much in them, and I want to do this right even if it is unconventional.
And I’m not doing it alone.
This is a family affair. I never would’ve gotten my first BRT without the support of my family—and they’re just as much a part of this journey as I am. The kids help with training and socializing (and yes, sometimes the chaos), and my husband has been behind me every step of the way. This dream has their fingerprints all over it.
This blog is where I’ll share that journey. The good dogs. The hard questions. The quiet observations. The loud opinions. And especially—the color. That’s right. Color BRTs.
I know, I know. That topic tends to make some people… uncomfortable. It’s like the attic of the breed. Everyone knows it’s there, but no one wants to turn the light on. Well—I brought a flashlight and snacks.
I’m not here to argue. I’m here to explore. To ask why we think what we think. To share what I’m learning. And to bring visibility to dogs who meet the standard in all the ways that matter—but happen to wear a different coat.
If you’re into health testing, solid structure, doing the work, and stirring the pot—just enough to make it better—you’re in good company here.
Thanks for reading. Let’s see where this goes.
